Today we woke up quite early to be able to see a very nice sunrise in the Tramuntana mountains.
After a 50mins drive we parked the car at the parking lot at the Cuber reservoir. We followed an easy trail and found the reservoir to our left. It was already quite empty as it appears we didn’t see a lot of rain this year.
After almost 2km we turned left and followed a rather non-existing track uphill through the grass. Once in a while we found stone markings for better orientation. Anyway the ridge above us was easy visible. Some 200m in altitude higher w found ourselves on the ridge with stunning views to Puig de na Franquesa, Palma city and of course over to our target: Puig de Sa Rateta. We had a quick bite and then continued our ascend towards the peak. Overseeing both reservoirs Cuber and Gorg Blau was just stunning. As well as the view of Mallorcas tallest mountain: Puig Major.
We enjoyed the view for a while and thereafter we descended northbound towards the dam where we found ourselves on a gravel road which led us back to the car. The hike covered roughly 8kms and we did 370m in altitude.
It was really worth it getting up so early.
